Pump Troubleshooting
Nov. 28, 2022
Submersible pumps are used with both motor and pump submerged in the water, typically into a tank or pit. As the working parts are under water surface, it is difficult to figure out the problems and repair in time. Here are some basic tips to maintain the submersible pumps and extend the service life effectively.
1-Suitable Working Voltage
The sump pump has a fixed range of working voltage, normally 10% allowance to the rated voltage. Lower or higher voltage than the suggested working range would cause motor winding burnt. Therefore, if the pump is working under unstable voltage, the operator must observe the real working voltage and stop the pump working upon inappropriate working voltage.
2-Correct Installation
When install a sump pump, the cable should not be lifted or pulled in case of crack. The sump pump should be installed above a solid base instead of the mud to allow good heat dissipation.
3-RCD installation
Install a RCD protector if possible.
Upon electrical leakage, the RCD will cut off the pump power supply and ensure safety in the largest degree.
4-Avoid Frequent Start
Do not start and stop the pump frequently.
The pump stop will create large current instantly. If the pump is turned on immediately, the motor will work under overload and be burnt due to the over current.
5-Avoid Over-Load Working
The pump should work at the recommended environments. Donot pump water with sediments or slit in case of overload working.
If the pump is ideally used in fully submerged water. Do not use it in half submerged environments for long time in case of motor over heating and burnt.
6-Regular Inspection
The cable wire, motor insulation and screws should be inspected every once a year.
Replace with new ones in time.
Appropriate cable could ensure the safety operation of a sump pump and extend the
pump life effectively.
If the pump is used in the dirty environments for long term, the distance between the impeller and the mechanical seal will enlarge more often.
Inspect and replace the mechanical seal in time.
7-Change the engine oil
Whenver there is oil leaking in the water, change the lubricating oil and the sealing gasket.
8-Dry Storage
Once the pump is not used, lift it from the water source and drain out the water inside the pump especially in winter.
9-Ask Professionals
Once the submersible pump is broken, ask professionals to do repair and maintenance.
